Reagle Dodge Celebrating 80 Years!
In 1933 a gallon of gas cost 10 cents, a brand new automobile could be purchased for $445.00 and Joseph C. Reagle, along with his two step-sons, Frank and Jim Ott, opened Reagle Dodge on route 512 in Pen Argyl.
Throughout the past 80 years Reagle Dodge has seen many changes to both the industry and our area. When production of vehicles ceased during WWII and focus shifted to the war efforts abroad our dealership adapted to better serve our community during this trying time. Our showroom was converted into apartments and our service and parts departments remained open to fulfill the needs of our customers on the home front. We have seen the debut of stock car racing and watched as the love of our product grew into a passion for many. As time went on we watched as ground breaking safety features and improvements were made to the vehicles we sell. We experienced the gas crisis of the 1970’s, witnessed the best selling minivan debut, the Dodge Grand Caravan and the introduction of sport utility vehicles into our business. We have seen logos come and go and most recently we observed Chrysler form an alliance with Fiat and RAM trucks become an established division of Chrysler. In great sorrow we have lost members of our family, said good-bye to others, welcomed new members and celebrated the birth of children and grandchildren. We have persevered and throughout all of these experiences we were never alone. During both the good and the bad, we always know that we have our customers by our side. Over the years our customers have become our friends, who are truly a part of our family.
In 80 years our dealership itself has experienced change. We have made additions to our building and expanded our property over the years to better serve our customers. At Reagle Dodge we do not only focus on sales but we also make sure that our customer’s vehicles remain well maintained and they feel safe on the road. Recently, we have added a 24 hour towing to our list of services to better protect our customers when they are away from home and our dealership. Our service department is made of 5 star mechanics who have well over 100 years of combined experience and have been with us for as many as 40 years. We take pride in making our customers feel protected and comfortable with each visit to our dealership, an experience like no other.
As time has passed and so much has changed, one thing has remained at Reagle Dodge and that is our family. The dealership is currently owned by the 3rd generation, Frank Ott’s son Bruce Ott and Son-in-law, Melvin Taylor. While both Bruce and Melvin continue to play an active roll at the dealership, the fourth generation are taking the wheel. Bruce’s son Jason is the head mechanic in the service department and his other son Justin is the general manager and works in sales while, Melvin’s son, Thadd, is the service manager at our dealership. Our family continues to own and operate Reagle Dodge with the same values and respect as when we first opened the doors in 1933. It is and continues to be a privilege to serve the Slate Belt and surrounding communities.
